Where I come from
Nací en Riobamba, a los pies del Chimborazo. A los 4 años mis padres me trajeron a Zaragoza, donde crecí hasta los 15.
I was born in Riobamba, at the foot of the Chimborazo. When I was 4 my parents brought me to Zaragoza, where I grew up until I was 15.
En 2009, en plena crisis, volví a Ecuador con mi padre. Allí saqué tres bachilleratos, dos de ellos de informática, y a los 18 entré en la Academia de Oficiales de la Policía Nacional.
In 2009, in the middle of the financial crisis, I went back to Ecuador with my father. There I completed three high-school diplomas, two of them in computing, and at 18 I joined the National Police Officers' Academy.
20.000 postulantes, 200 aceptados. Estuve casi un año de los cuatro de formación.
20,000 applicants, 200 admitted. I stayed almost one year of the four-year programme.
Y me salí. Fue difícil, pero tenía claro a qué quería dedicarme: llevaba desde niño delante de un ordenador.
And I left. It was hard, but I knew what I wanted to do: I had been in front of a computer since I was a kid.
Fue la primera vez que elegí el camino largo por ser el correcto. No sería la última.
It was the first time I chose the long road because it was the right one. It would not be the last.
Donde empezó lo técnico
Where the technical part began
A los 20 entré en la Escuela Superior Politécnica de Chimborazo. Salí en 2018 con el segundo mejor promedio de mi promoción y tres concursos de programación ganados, dos de ellos nacionales.
At 20 I started at Escuela Superior Politécnica de Chimborazo. I graduated in 2018 with the second-best GPA of my class and three programming contests won, two of them national.
Antes de terminar ya estaba trabajando. En DocuArq formé parte del equipo que construyó el sistema de gestión de un estudio de arquitectura: Java, servicios REST sobre arquitectura N capas, PostgreSQL y despliegue en Payara.
I was already working before I graduated. At DocuArq I was part of the team that built the management system for an architecture firm: Java, REST services on an N-tier architecture, PostgreSQL and deployment on Payara.
Era un equipo pequeño, así que toqué de todo: frontend, backend, base de datos y servidor.
It was a small team, so I worked across the whole stack: frontend, backend, database and server.

En 2019 regresé a Zaragoza para hacer un máster. Empecé uno que resultó estar centrado en hardware, y a los pocos meses me cambié al de Tecnologías Software Avanzadas para Dispositivos Móviles en la Universidad San Jorge.
In 2019 I returned to Zaragoza for a master's degree. The one I started turned out to be hardware-focused, so after a few months I switched to Advanced Software Technologies for Mobile Devices at Universidad San Jorge.
Preferí perder unos meses antes que dos años.
I preferred losing a few months to losing two years.

Al acabar el máster probé suerte en Londres, en plena pandemia. Duró tres meses y volví con los bolsillos vacíos. Aprendí a vivir con poco.
After the master's I tried my luck in London, in the middle of the pandemic. It lasted three months and I came back broke. I learned to live on very little.

It was a project I wanted to stay on for a long time, and I was building with that in mind.

Un fondo de inversión compró la empresa y despidió a casi toda la plantilla. Me quedé sin el trabajo en el que pensaba quedarme años.
An investment fund bought the company and laid off almost the entire staff. I lost the job I expected to stay in for years.
Tenía una idea guardada desde hacía tiempo. Empecé al día siguiente.
I had an idea I had been sitting on for a while. I started the next day.

Qué busco ahora
What I am looking for
Un equipo donde crecer por el lado técnico: arquitectura, decisiones de diseño, sistemas que aguanten escala. No busco gestionar proyectos, busco construirlos mejor.
A team where I can grow on the technical track: architecture, design decisions, systems that hold up at scale. I am not looking to manage projects, I am looking to build them better.
Lo que traigo: ocho años de backend, la costumbre de hacerme responsable de todo el camino (del servidor al endpoint) y la de no soltar un problema hasta entender por qué fallaba.
What I bring: eight years of backend engineering, the habit of owning the whole path from server to endpoint, and the habit of not letting go of a problem until I understand why it broke.
También sé lo que quiero mejorar: comunicar mejor lo que hago. Estoy en ello, y esta presentación forma parte de eso.
I also know what I want to improve: communicating my work better. I am working on it, and this presentation is part of that.
